LF’s Repertory Program offers more classes per week and more performing opportunities throughout the year, including Extremely Moving Youth Society’s annual fundraiser Go Nuts! Student Choreography Showcase, and an additional evening of performance as part of our Feater Festival Dancing Through Life. This program is also the training grounds for Extremely Moving Youth Society’s Pre-Professional Program for students who wish to pursue a professional career in dance. For more information about the Pre-Professional Program, visit www.leapingfeats.com or email your enquiries to firstname.lastname@example.org.
In the 2017-2018 dance season, LF will offer 4 different levels of the Repertory Program: Rep A – Grades 2-4 (2 mandatory classes, 2 optional classical ballet) Rep B – Grades 3-5 (3 mandatory classes, 1 optional classical ballet, 1 optional acro) Rep C – Grades 4-6 (3 mandatory classes, 1 optional classical ballet, 1 recommended acro) Teen Rep – Grades 7+ (3 mandatory classes, 1 optional Hip Hop, 1 optional acro)
Aims of the Repertory Program: To provide training that will adequately prepare children to enter the Pre-Professional Program currently offered by Extremely Moving Youth Society. To provide an intermediary option for dancers who want to dance more than what the recreational program offers, but not as much training as that offered by the EMYS Pre-Professional Program. To provide dancers with opportunity to perform in the community. To provide dancers with opportunity to work with guest choreographers. To inspire children to challenge themselves physically, creatively, intellectually, and realize their potential as dancers, choreographers, and collaborators.
Time Commitments: Repertory A: 2.5 hours per week (3.75 hours/week with Classical Ballet option) Repertory B: 4 hours per week (5.25 hours/week with Classical Ballet option) Repertory C: 4.5 hours per week (5.75 hours/week with Classical Ballet option, 6 hours/week with Acro option, 7.25 hours/week with both options) Teen Repertory: 4.5 hours per week (6.5 hours/week with Hip Hop option, 6 hours/week with Acro option)
Other Commitments: Shows at the Yukon Arts Centre: All Repertory Program Students are required to attend at least 1 professional dance performance presented at the Yukon Arts Centre. It is important for dancers in the Repertory Program to see professional dancers perform, as it gives them a sense of what a good performer is. The more often they see strong performers, the better their own performance quality will become.
Rotary Music Festival: Rotary Music Festival is another required commitment of the dancers in the Repertory Program. Being involved in a convention, like the RMF, gives our students the opportunity to both showcase their skills and receive essential feedback about their progress. The RMF is typically held mid-April, but dates and times are to be determined by the festival. There are additional fees associated with the festival that will be required on top of program fees.
Make-up for missed Repertory classes: All Repertory Program Students are required to remember all choreography given in repertory class from week to week so that rehearsal time is used most efficiently, and the class is not held up by the instructor having to re-teach previous weeks’ choreography. Students are responsible for learning any missed material (due to absence) or asking for extra help if they need it. Students can request the assistance of fellow dancers or their teachers. Teachers are available for a fee of $40/hour, in addition to studio rental. The studio may be rented for $20/hour for students interested in using the space or doing their own choreography. A parent/or adult will be required to accompany that child to the studio.
Required Dance Clothing & Supplies for all Repertory Program students: Please make sure your student has all of these items for his/her classes and performances, and assist them to arrive at the studio a few minutes early for each class with everything they need. The first week of classes begins on Monday, August 29, 2017; the first scheduled performance is in January, 2018.
